SEE REASONS WHY Nemanja Matic COULD LEAVE CHELSEA THIS SEASON TO MANCHESTER UNITED

,Antonio Conte is gearing up for a busy first full summer as Chelsea manager, with Romelu Lukaku and Tiemoue Bakayoko increasingly likely to move to Stamford Bridge. Chelsea want to bring in five new players during the close season, with Conte having identified the key areas he feels need strengthening. A new striker features among those targets and so does a central midfielder, with Lukaku and Bakayoko fitting the bill for the Chelsea boss. And while many believe that the impending arrival of Lukaku will pave the way for Diego Costa to leave the club, there is also a suggestion that Bakayoko’s arrival could force Nemanja Matic out in a competitive central midfield. Bakayoko would offer the Chelsea midfield similar physical qualities to those Matic provides and it is unlikely Conte will be desperate to keep both amid interest from Manchester United in the Serb. Our colleagues at the Manchester Evening News claim Matic remains one of Jose Mourinho’s key transfer targets this summer and that rumours of a move for Bakayoko’s teammate are not true. Lukaku will command at least £70m while Bakayoko’s fee will likely be around the £35m mark, meaning departures may be needed to offset Conte’s desire for summer signings. Mourinho is keen on a reunion with Matic and his inauspicious form in 2016/17 could yet lead to his departure if a suitable offer arrives from the Old Trafford club. Jose Mourinho wants one of Nemanja Matic and Spurs’ Eric Dier, according to reports Bakayoko’s similar skillset to Matic means Chelsea could be effectively replacing their current partner for N’Golo Kante, who Conte wants to build his midfield around. Cesc Fabregas’ future is also to be resolved though his ability to break the lines with his passing and goalscoring abilities mean he is not as likely to be discarded as Matic if United follow up on their interest. Another suggestion is Matic being used as a bargaining chip if Conte makes his move for Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci. The Italian defender is a target for the Blues as they look to reinforce their central defensive options and the Serie A winners and Champions League finalists, from whom Chelsea are also reportedly exploring the signing of Alex Sandro, have shown previous interest in Matic. Tiemoue Bakayoko There have also been rumours in recent days that Conte may capitalise on uncertainty regarding Marco Verratti’s future at PSG as the Chelsea boss looks to bolster his squad ahead of a Premier League defence and Champions League challenge next year.
